My approach to therapy is that I strongly believe that I am not the expert on you, YOU are the expert on you. My goal is to work with you to help you find your own answers as I truly believe you have them and something has kept you from seeing them for yourself.

MIAMI-BASED PSYCHOLOGIST

Allowing yourself to freely share with a therapist can change your life forever.

Our first meeting is considered an initial assessment.  This is a way for you to get to know me and for me to learn more about you.  I appreciate that choosing a therapist is an important decision and I want to make sure that you feel comfortable and at ease with me. My typical session is 50 minutes, once a week or once every other week (an hour and 20 minutes for couples). Our sessions can be a hybrid of in person meetings and remote sessions.  I do offer half sessions after I have worked with a client for several months.  It is important for us to have built a solid foundation in our own therapeutic relationship prior to transitioning to shorter sessions.

There is no way to determine how many sessions you may need at the outset.  Some individuals feel their needs are met within four sessions whereas others may want significantly more.  We will discuss your goals together, and I will continually check-in as we progress to make sure your needs are being met.

Finally, it is important to me to honor each person I work with as an individual with a unique worldview based on their background and experiences.  I am sensitive to and seek to understand the many identities every person possesses including gender, sexual orientation, race, ethnicity, religion, socioeconomic status, and the like.

Adolescents

Adolescence is a time of significant change; emotionally, intellectually and physically.  Adolescence refers to individuals between the ages of 11 and 24. I love providing a safe space for adolescents to process what is happening in their lives: school, friendships, puberty, moving into romantic relationships and understanding themselves in all of these spaces. Many teenagers seek a trusted adult to speak with because it can be hard to confide in a parent or caregiver. I offer adolescents a space for self discovery and help them navigate their growing sense of independence within their family and community.

College Students

The transitions into and out of college are massive and cannot be underestimated. College brings a new world of independence not often understood by adolescents until the moment it begins. Knowing yourself as an individual separate and apart from your family – not to mention making all of your own choices each day – can be daunting.  Learning who you truly are and/or who you are hoping to be as you work towards graduation, can be overwhelming.  I hope to create an environment where you can honestly explore all facets of yourself and make choices that feel congruent with who you are and want to be.

Parents

Whether you’re the parent of a newborn trying to find a new balance in your world or the parent of a teenager trying to navigate the bumpy ride of adolescence, there is a space here for you.  The ups and downs of parenting can be trying and difficult.  If you find you are not often the parent you hope to be, we can work together to look at your personal expectations and if they are in fact realistic or causing you more harm than good.  We often hold ourselves to unrealistic standards and subsequently feel discouraged when we do not reach our goals.  Together we can assess where you are and help you move closer to being the parent you want to be.

Couples

Whether you are married, living together or long time partners, being part of a couple takes significant work.  Having a space to sit and process the inner workings of your relationship is a healthy way to bring intimacy and joy back to your lives.  If you are also parents, this adds an additional layer to your life as a couple, making it easy for partners to lose sight of one another. The pace of life can move quickly and often feels repetitive and mundane: wake up, go to work, run home, rush through the night routine, go to bed, repeat. The situation at home may have come to a crossroads and you may find yourself trying to decide if you should remain in the relationship or go separate ways.  Regardless of if this is due to something specific (infidelity) or something more broad (drifting away from each other), I will help you move closer to understanding what it is you want for yourself and your relationship, and how to best get there.

Individuals

When we begin our work together, we will first seek an understanding of what is not working for you in your present life situation. Together, we will work on processing your emotions and discovering patterns that are keeping you stuck in a place you are no longer comfortable.  More often than not, the negative messages we hold onto lead us to react unconsciously to certain situations as opposed to responding intentionally.  I will help empower you to make different choices so that you become more confident in how you are living your life every day.
